Two men arrested for pillaging Chornobyl radiators

December 28th, 2006 by WickLi

Officials have arrested two men for stealing radiators from inside the Chornobyl exclusion zone.

The two men pillaged the radiators, presumably for scrap metal, from the centralized heating system from the Prypyat ghost town. Both men are residents of the Ivankiv village on the outskirts of the zone. One of the men is an employee of the Chornobyl water supply company, the other man is unemployed. The men reportedly snuck into the zone through a whole in a fence. Criminal proceedings are underway. The Emergencies ministry has created a special commission to investigate the crime.
